DIAC organises construction disputes workshop |

The Dubai International Arbitration Center (DIAC), an initiative of Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry in cooperation with the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Korea (MOJ), Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB), and the Seoul International Dispute Resolution Centre (SIDRC) organised a workshop focusing on the recent Trends and Practices in Construction Dispute Resolutions. With its aim to cover various topics regarding construction arbitration and to provide a platform for discussion to in-house counsels, practitioners and other legal professionals, the workshop was addressed by Sung Bae Ji, President, Korean Commercial Arbitration Board and Abdul Moneim Bin Suwaidan, Member of the DIAC Board of Trustees, Chairman and owner of Bin Sowaidan Advocates. Dr. Habib Al Mulla, Chairman, Board of Trustees, DIAC, said that the workshop led to the exchange of experiences and know-how of DIAC in Construction disputes area. The conference discussed the latest trends in resolving construction disputes around the world. The Dubai International Arbitration Centre, which is one of the world's leading centres for commercial arbitration has, since its inception, been promoting arbitration in settling construction disputes and has become the leading arbitration centre in resolving construction disputes in the region. Dr. Al Mulla further stressed that these meetings are essential to understand the developments taking place in the world of arbitration while sharing experiences in order to overcome the issues plaguing businesses in the settlement of trade disputes, as on its part DIAC is open to adopt best practices to promote the use of alternative means of trade dispute in Dubai and the region. The workshop covered Current Trends in Construction Disputes in the Middle East, Africa and Korea, Preventing the Abuse of On-Demand Bonds in Construction projects, and seeking injunctions against bond calls in international arbitration through: Emergency Arbitration, Interim Measures and Courts. Created in 1994 as the "Centre for Commercial Conciliation and Arbitration", the Dubai International Arbitration Centre is an autonomous, permanent, non-profit institution that provides the regional and international business communities a high calibre of arbitration services and facilities at an affordable price. Through DIAC’s associate membership, members could enhance their knowledge and experience international commercial arbitration by participating in seminars, training workshops and international conferences. The services offered include the overseeing of arbitral proceedings and commercial disputes, appointing arbitrators, choosing the venue for the arbitration and fixing the fees of arbitrators and mediators. |
