Dubai Culture Participates in Arabian Travel Market 2016

Dubai Arts & Culture Authority (Dubai Culture) is participating in the fourth consecutive instalment of the Arabian Travel Market 2016 at the Dubai World Trade Centre. The event is held in collaboration with the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) from 25th-28th April, highlighting Dubai’s yearly agenda of cultural and artistic events to further establish the city as a vibrant, global Arabian metropolis that shapes culture and arts in the region and the world.

Dubai Culture’s stand showcases different attractions to visitors from across the world. Attendees at the Arabian Travel Market – which included the general public to tourism, travel and hospitality professionals, are provided with detailed information on the diverse cultural scene in the Emirate of Dubai by Dubai Culture.

His Excellency Saeed Al Nabouda, Acting Director General of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority said: “Arabian Travel Market is an extremely important event in the Dubai annual calendar, and we are pleased to be participating and showcasing the traditional, cultural and modern assets of the Emirate. Dubai Culture is committed to supporting in continuous development and growth of the tourism sector of Dubai - a key driver for economic diversifications of the Emirate and the entire UAE.”

Al Nabouda added: “As part of our strategic objectives, Dubai Culture is keen to leverage the benefits of cultural tourism - in particular through launching initiatives to reflect our rich and authentic national identity. Through its annual calendar of events, the Authority focuses on creating cultural bridges to connect the UAE heritage and its cultural roots to the coming generations and to integrate the wider community across all the emirates.”

Visitors to Dubai Culture’s stand were surprised with a diverse roster of activities such as paintings and artworks from renowned artists such as Abdul Qader Al Rais and Mattar Bin Lahej and Lulwah Al-Hamoud. Artists on the stand conducted live drawing sessions; among them were Rashid Al Mulla, the UAE artist who showcased his paintings with an authentic, personal stamp. In addition, Dubai based-artist Marwan Shakarchi, also known by his moniker, “myneandyours,” drew his famous symbol- the cloud- which represents hope and empowerment. 

In celebration of the Year of Reading in the UAE, as declared by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and in line with the directions of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, the Authority also feature the Dubai Public Library’s selection of valuable books and publications that showcase the UAE’s art and culture. The library section at the stand highlighted the rich Emirati heritage and authentic roots by tabulating the UAE’s journey from its culturally-rich past to its prosperous present.  

In addition, the Authority requests visitors to its stand to impart their feedback on its interactive panel. Visitors are able to share ideas on what makes them happy in Dubai through the Dubai Culture Campaign titled #DearDubai, where participants can write their ideas on postcards adorned with special artworks by various artists.

Dubai Culture also showcases its latest initiative, Creatopia, the UAE’s first government-empowered virtual community for creativity, through which they educated residents and visitors about the importance and growth of Dubai’s cultural scene by attracting artistic professionals to the city. Through these initiatives, Dubai Culture endeavour to bring insight and innovation together under one roof with the goal of enticing a new creative mind-set amongst the city’s communities. 

Dubai Culture aims to enrich the cultural scene of Dubai and draw attention to the Emirate’s rich heritage through various initiatives throughout the year. The Authority’s mandates focuses to build bridges of constructive dialogue between different civilisations and cultures through constructive initiatives that benefit citizens and residents.
