SIKKA Art Fair Continues with Various Artistic Activations until 24th March

SIKKA Art Fair is the flagship arts and cultural initiative organised by Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture) as part of “Dubai Art Season”, held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of the Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture).

Now in it's 2nd week running, visitors to the fair can enjoy art, music, food and entertainment throughout the alleys of Al Fahidi. One of this year’s highlights is the live, out-door cinema screenings delivered by Cinema Akil, an independent cinema which aims to provide movies from across the world to audiences in Dubai with the aim to raise awareness about the cinema industry.

Lubna Ahmed Al-Shamsi, Project Manager of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, said, “We are glad to see such a positive record of attendance at this year’s SIKKA Art Fair. The participants represent some of the best talents across the GCC. This year’s edition highlights the participation and artists portfolios from both emerging and established artists from the UAE and across the GCC, which reflects the rapid development of the artistic scene in the region. Dubai Culture is keen to provide the necessary platforms on which emerging talents are able to perform and showcase their best work. In line with the Dubai Government’s vision of consolidating Dubai’s position as an international center for creativity and innovation, we are determined to continue setting the benchmark for aspiring artists and creative minds across the region”.

The focus in 2016 is on identifying the UAE and the wider GCC region's aspiring and emerging local talent. This has culminated in Unity @ 53, where the most established mixed-media artists from the UAE and GCC are exhibiting with a series of photographs from Her Highness Princess Reem Al Faisal and sculptures from the acclaimed Fuad Albinfalah.

While Rashid Al Mulla's live painting has reconnected the blurred lines between tradition and modernity using the burqaa' as its symbol.

Various workshops covering all spectrums of art are presented during the fair, including Arabic calligraphy, animation, photography, hot glass drawing, 3D portraits and oil painting. Hosted by UAE- based collective industry organisations including the Animation Chamber, Chochoma Studio, Marsam Mattar, Architect Heritage Society, Precise, Room-Five Creative Facility, Dar Al Khatt and NYU Abu Dhabi University. The activities are ideal for those looking to discover their own creative potential.

There is an eclectic selection of performances this year, ranging from traditional and folk to jazz and hip hop musical genres.
