Dubai Customs showcases its experience and initiatives at Cargo Show MENA 2016

The mega exhibition was held under the honorary patronage of HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Presidential Affairs, during 8 – 9 March 2016 at Dubai World Trade Center.

Humaid Al Rashid, Director of Air Customs Centre Management at Dubai Customs delivered a presentation on “Harmonising air cargo regulations to improve the efficiency of air cargo shipments”. He reflected on Dubai Customs’ success in turning challenges into opportunities in this area.

“Global laws and regulations for the air cargo industry prompt us to improve the efficiency of air freight forwarding in Dubai. We developed numerous services and facilitations to spur the growth of air cargo flow. The Virtual Freight and Logistic Corridor is one of the major facilitations offered by Dubai Customs to freight forwarders, enabling them to transport their cargo between sea and air ports in Dubai in a more streamlined, hassle-free manner and without any financial burden,” Al Rashid said.

He further elaborated that shifting to the electronic Air Waybills (e-AWBs), one of the first steps of the e-freight initiative, supported by The International Air Transport Association (IATA), is another initiative adopted by Dubai Customs to cater to the air cargo industry. The initiative aims to take the paper out of air cargo and to replace it with the exchange of electronic data and messages.

“Dubai Customs is committed to adopting highest global standards for air freight security. Our Risk Engine, developed in-house, assesses shipments’ risk level and flags risky ones before arriving to Dubai,” he added.
