GE Highlights Regional Collaborations And New Technologies At ADIPEC 2008

Participation In Line With Conference Theme Of Working Together To Deliver Sustainable Growth

General Electric Company (GE) is highlighting its regional collaborations and new technologies at the Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference (ADIPEC) 2008 to be held from November 3 to 6, 2008 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. GE’s participation reiterates the company’s long-standing contribution to the energy sector of the region, and how the company has been evolving its products and solutions to meet emerging needs and challenges. Two core businesses of GE – GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies and GE Oil & Gas – will highlight their strengths, together showcasing GE’s broad spectrum support to the energy sector. GE is also a key participant at the Innovation Seminars held on the sidelines of the international event. Senior company personnel will present an overview of how GE’s technologies are contributing to the petroleum and allied sectors in the region. They will also explain the features of the new technologies being introduced including a paper on ‘Technology enhancements for the application of magnetic bearings in critical wet sour gas applications.’ Nabil Habayeb, GE’s President and CEO for the Middle East and Africa region, said: “Since the mid-1930s, GE has played an integral role in the area’s development by providing high-technology products and services necessary to advance the region’s infrastructure and meet its energy and industrial needs.” Brian Hempenstall, Regional Service Manager MEA for GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies, said: “GE Sensing & Inspection Technologies has opened a dedicated calibration, repair and training service centre in Abu Dhabi, apart from an advanced facility in Saudi Arabia. We are expanding our reach in the region by introducing the latest technologies at ADIPEC 2008, an internationally relevant forum for exchange of the latest innovations in the petroleum sector.” He added: “The petrochemical sector relies heavily on sensing instrumentation for various aspects of its operation including pressure monitoring, and temperature, gas & moisture regulation. Our new products, some of them to be launched shortly in the market, address the demanding requirements of the industry, and address ADIPEC’s theme this year of ‘Working Together to Deliver Sustainable Growth.’” GE Oil & Gas is actively supporting several of the major refinery projects in the Middle East region providing compression and power generation equipment, pumps and air-coolers, and aftermarket services such as maintenance, repair and upgrades. In addition, through the acquisition of VetcoGray and Hydril Pressure Control, GE Oil & Gas provides one of the most comprehensive portfolios of drilling, completion and production systems for both onshore and offshore applications. VetcoGray supplied the first wellhead and christmas tree for the ADCO Sour Gas Project onshore in Abu Dhabi, which due to the harsh environment required the use of exotic and very corrosion resistant materials. Mohammad Ayoub, Operations Leader and Region General Manager – Middle East for GE Oil & Gas said: “Our technical seminar at ADIPEC focuses on a pertinent issue that faces the oil and gas industry. Today, as reserves become increasingly sour, the need for components that can withstand operation in contact with these process fluids is increasing. GE has pioneered the development of compression solutions for sour oil and gas processing, by introducing compressor design and material technology advances that allow associated sour gas containing a high percentage of H2S and/or CO2 to be handled at the highest pressures, without the need for dehydrating and sweetening.” During the ADIPEC show, GE Oil & Gas will also be featuring its innovative integrated motor compressor (ICL) technology, which has been certified as an ecomagination product, highlighting its environmental sustainability.
