Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi Inaugurates Three Distinct Exhibitions As Part Of 2024 Programme |

Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi, a cultural centre affiliated to the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi), launched three captivating exhibitions as part of its 2024 season on Thursday 22nd February. Hussein Sharif: Re-framing Reality showcases four decades of the artist’s work, featuring his multidisciplinary practice across painting, drawing, collage and sculpture. Born in Dubai, Hussein Sharif is one of the UAE’s key postmodernist artists, and is part of the group of ‘Five’ who rose to prominence in the mid-1980s and are considered the founders of contemporary art in the UAE. The ‘Five’ includes artists Hassan Sharif, Abdullah Al Saadi, Mohammed Kazem and Mohamed Ahmed Ibrahim. Curated by Aysha Al Hemeiri and Zuhoor Al Sayegh, the show will run until 1st September 2024. Native: Plants in the UAE is a group art exhibition that sheds light on the UAE’s native flora through a curated collection of art installations and informative exhibits, portraying a story of adaptation and survival through indigenous plants from the iconic Ghaf tree to resilient desert grasses. The exhibition is curated by Sumayya Al Suwaidi and assistant curators Aysha Al Aseeri and Huda Marzooq and will run until 1st September 2024. Through the Seasons with Eric Carle celebrates the work of world-renowned illustrator and young children’s book author, Eric Carle, for the first time in the region in an exhibition that showcases the wonders of nature throughout the year. With more than 70 books to his name, including the famous The Very Hungry Caterpillar, this exhibition the show features original artworks – including Carle’s painted tissue-paper collages from classic picture books – as well as unpublished work. Curated by Reem AlHashimi, the showcase runs until 22nd August 2024. Through the Seasons with Eric Carle is organised by The Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, Amherst, Massachusetts, United States. The exhibitions are among a rich line-up of cultural performances, activities, workshops and courses from the 2024 season of Cultural Foundation Abu Dhabi. Entrance to Cultural Foundation is free. The Cultural Foundation is open from Saturday to Thursday from 9:00 to 20:00, and on Fridays from 14:00 to 20:00. |
