Sharjah Museums Department (SMD) successfully concluded a two-day intensive training programme on “work etiquette” for SMD museum staff. The initiative was aimed at enhancing the knowledge and skills of the staff across the various museums, and thus continuing to deliver the highest quality of services for visitors. The programme, run by Ashraf Al Marzouqi, etiquette and protocol specialist, included a number of topics aimed at enabling the participants to gain the necessary skills in dealing with dignitaries and guests. The programme focused on the definition of etiquette concepts, and its relationship to daily behaviours. It also familiarised participants with the elements of social etiquette as well as the basics of Islamic culture, customs and traditions and Arab morals. “SMD is committed to build and nurture the capabilities of all staff to carry out their duties to the fullest, and thus contribute to the continual development of Shajrah’s cultural sector. The programme was successful and strengthened the skills of our staff members, and helped enhance their awareness on the global definition of work etiquette and protocol,” said Manal Ataya, Director General, SMD. The training programme focused on providing the participants with the necessary knowledge and conduct of meetings, discussions and negotiation, and official ceremonies, in accordance with the rules of etiquette and international protocol. The Sharjah Museums Department, established in 2006 by His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, aims to promote the emirate’s rich legacy of arts, heritage and culture.
