DP World, UAE Region Promotes Trade And Manufacturing At Business Summit

DP World UAE Region has underlined its commitment to support the diversification of the UAE’s economy and growth of its own manufacturing sector through innovation and SMART technology.

In a keynote address to the third Future Manufacturing and Trade Summit 2018, Abdulla bin Damithan, Chief Commercial Officer of DP World UAE Region, called on manufacturers to create the change needed to transform lives and communities.

DP World, UAE Region, is the official Free Zone Partner for the two-day event which attracted experts from a range of sectors including aerospace, maritime services, pharmaceuticals, and fast-moving consumer goods, among others.

Attendees included Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Industry; Sami Al Qamzi, Director of the Department of Economic Development for Dubai; Dr. Mukhisa Kituyi, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development; and Dorothy Tembo, Deputy Executive Director at the International Trade Centre.

The Dubai Government aims to increase total GDP by AED165 billion by 2030 as part of the Dubai Industrial Strategy. It also plans for the creation of 27,000 jobs, with exports forecast to increase by AED16 billion. The industrial sector is projected to grow by an additional AED18 billion by 2030.

Speaking at the conference, Mohammed Al Muallem, CEO and Managing Director of DP World, UAE Region, said, "The UAE is a vital link in the global supply chain ranked 11th in the World Bank’s latest Logistics Performance Index. It is also a pioneer in the testing of future technologies that will play an important role in future growth. By 2021, the Artificial Intelligence sector alone is expected to grow by 55.1 percent; Blockchain is expected to grow by 61.5 percent; Automation by 28.1 percent, and renewable energy by 40 percent. All these sectors are finding Dubai to be an ideal base due to its focus on trade and manufacturing."

"Our parks and zones, especially the National Industries Park, are making Dubai the region’s leading manufacturing centre. Manufacturing is already Dubai’s third largest sector and we are well placed to capitalise on the opportunities presented by intelligent investment in our people, relevant technologies and businesses in the Fourth Industrial Age. These industries must come together to use technology and innovation to create the change needed to transform lives and communities," he added.

"This is one of the drivers behind DP World’s efforts to enable trade across our global network. From Jebel Ali Port in Dubai to our terminals spread across more than 40 countries, we are creating the future of the world’s supply chain by making it faster and better, bringing benefits to the communities we work in," Al Muallem concluded.
