Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has launched DEWA’s Youth Council to guide young people’s capabilities and potential. This supports the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership to empower and support young people, and engage them in their national quest for excellence and ultimate success. This also is part of DEWA’s efforts to achieve its strategic goals by spreading positive energy and creating a pleasant work environment.
The Council will utilise young peoples’ capabilities to inspire youth-centric dialogue across a variety of areas for sustainable engagement with Emirati youth, find innovative methods for their active engagement, and get their views on the most important youth-related issues. It will come up with practical solutions and innovative ideas to the challenges they face. The council contributes to the promotion of national identity and good citizenship among Emirati youth.
It ensures more interaction between them and DEWA’s top management, and opens a new channel of communication with the Emirates Youth Council, which is dedicated to setting a forward-thinking strategy for youth wellbeing and effective engagement.
“By establishing DEWA’s Youth Council, we seek to further develop the Emirati youth, acknowledge their views and thoughts, and explore ways to help them take part in DEWA’s efforts to achieve a comprehensive and sustainable development. The move supports the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to involve young people in the developmental initiatives and projects, and His Highness’s directives to promote communication with Emirati youth to become better acquainted with their innovative ideas and views. This will help us provide a better incubator environment to realise their dreams and aspirations, and enable them to play a key role in the UAE development.
DEWA’s Youth Council is an important step towards promoting optimal investment in the potential of youth. Young people are the driving force for a brighter future. Today’s youth are tomorrow’s leaders and the cornerstone of the sustainable development. DEWA strives to actively participate in initiatives involving young people. This supports our efforts to achieve Dubai Plan 2021 to make Dubai a city of happy, creative, and empowered people," said HE Saeed Mohammad Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
"Based on our firm belief that young citizens have the required capabilities and expertise to help DEWA achieve its ambitious visions and plans, we look forward to benefitting from their potentials, skills, and views. Through DEWA’s Youth Council, we intend to provide our youth with the necessary means to properly direct their creative ideas in a manner that serves DEWA’s vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. We are very confident that the council will achieve remarkable positive results, which will enhance our communication with them, and help us to better know their ideas and opinions. This enables us to provide them with the best environment to embrace their dreams and ambitions, and empower them to play a key role in UAE’s quest for excellence and prosperity. We look forward to working with the Emirates Youth Council to support youth-related initiatives and programmes,” added Al Tayer.
"DEWA is dedicated to preparing a talented generation of Emiratis who can compete in local and global energy markets. The future is now open for young people to show their abilities, and lead in energy and water to be a part of DEWA’s success story. The Council will include the most talented youth nominated by DEWA’s senior officials. 12 members, including 6 male and 6 female employees, have been chosen for a period of two years. The selection has been conducted based on specific criteria, such as proven outstanding performance and positive behaviour as a UAE citizen, and a notable record of personal achievements," said Dr Yousef Al Akraf, Executive Vice President of Business Support and Human Resources at DEWA.
DEWA’s Youth Council includes Fatima Mohammed Al Joker, Ali Saeed Al Marri, Anood Ahmed Al Marzouqi, Mariam Ali Bin Humaidan, Ahmad Mani bin Mani, Abdulaziz Salem Alhosani, Afra Al Shamsi, Marwan Juma Mohammad, Majid Abdullah Al Hajri, Mariam Ali Abdul-Qadir, Abdullah Sultan Al Suwaidi, Fatma Mohammed Al Alili, and Mai Hamdan Al Ghafri.
Fatima Mohammed Al Joker, a member of the Emirates Youth Council, the Coordinator-General for Dubai Youth Council, and Chairman of DEWA’s Youth Council, expressed her pleasure to be part of this fruitful step.
“Being part of DEWA’s Youth Council is one of the most important steps I have taken during my career. Being one of them, I have a great passion to address youth issues, listen to youth’s opinions and discuss their ideas. We will work on developing a futuristic agenda to unleash youth’s capabilities and potential. This will help them to become promising leaders who contribute to shaping UAE’s prosperous future,” said Al Joker.
“Emirati women are universally so admired for getting involved in all areas of development while showing world-class education level and professionalism. This wouldn’t have been achieved without the unlimited support of the UAE’s leadership which has placed the Emirati women at the forefront of progress and prosperity of the nation. As a legal consultant at DEWA, I find legal work is different than other kinds of work because it is associated with a lot of social considerations. It needs much efforts to achieve success. DEWA’s higher management supported me so much and encouraged working women to prove their abilities in this regard,” concluded Al Joker.
