Dubai Executive Council, Dubai Chamber host workshop on implementing Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030

The General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Dubai in cooperation with Dubai Chamber of Commerce and Industry recently organised a workshop attended by Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030’s implemention team and representatives of the emirate's private sector.

The workshop, held at the Chamber's premises, focused on current progress related to the implementation of the new strategy that aims to position Dubai as a global hub  for knowledge-based, innovation and sustainable industrial activities. The meeting was attended by 70 representatives frm the private sector in Dubai who shared their feedback on the new strategy, in addition to their suggestions for prioritising new plans and initaitves.

H.E. Abdullah Al Shaibani, Secretary General, Dubai Executive Council, said: "As H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai said, industry is an essential component of our national economy, we are working to implement this strategy to build a sustainable economy. We recognise that public-private sector collaboration is the most effective way to achieve this vision and enhance Dubai’s industrial status regionally and globally.” 

He added: "Representatives from the private sector have joined us to disucss and draft the strategy's pillars, and the Council will plan to organise several workshops in the future that bring together public and private sctor players from various industries. These workshops will also outline recommendations for  attracting investment across various industrial sectors with the aim of further diversifying the economy." 

On his part, H.E. Hamad Buamim, President and CEO, Dubai Chamber, said that the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030 is a key pillar of the emirate's diversification strategy that was implemented by the government of Dubai, adding that strategic partnerships between the public and the private sectors will be key to the development of the emirate's economy going forward.

“The Chamber plays an essential role in promoting and facilitating collaboration between Dubai's public and private sectors. We are a representative of the private sector and work closely with the business community to bring their recommendations to concerned government entities with the aim of improving ease of doing business," said H.E. Buamim.

H.E. Buamim added that this workshop is a continuation of series of workshops and meetings which reflects the key role of both sectors in drafting policies that boost investments and economic growth. 

During his opening speech, Mr. Atiq Juma Nasib, Senior Vice-President, Commercial Services Sector, Dubai Chamber, stressed on the importance of the workshops in highlighting the needs of the local business community, existing challenges, as well as new opportunities companies can benefit from. He added that the workshops provide a very effective platform for open dialogue and communication that will boost the industrial sector's contribution to Dubai's GDP.

One of the participants, Karine Labaky, General Manager, GlobalPharma - Sanofi, stated that this meeting helped in highlighting the obstacles being faced by the industrial sector and identifying methods to overcome them in line with the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030. She also called for improving trade agreements and creating a unified mark for products made in the UAE.

Last year, the Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030 was launched by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The strategy, which includes six sub-sectors, aims to boost Dubai’s GDP by AED 165 billion by 2030. The strategy also aims to strengthen manufacturing industries and reduce energy consumption and pollution resulting from industrialisation. 

H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, instructed the implementation of the strategy to begin in early 2017. He stressed the need for government entities to intensify efforts to achieve the goals defined in the strategy.
