Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has honoured five Dubai government employees in recognition of innovative ideas submitted through the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to enable the local and international community to submit innovative ideas that contribute towards Dubai’s transformation into the smartest and fastest growing city in the world.
Submitted ideas are reviewed on a weekly basis by DEWA’s Higher Committee for Innovation, chaired by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA. The committee reviews the ideas submitted through the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis. It either implements them directly, or refers them to other government entities or internal departments for further consideration.
DEWA receives innovative ideas and improvement observations in three main categories, namely electricity, water and renewable energy. 605 innovative ideas and 48 improvement observations were received for ‘Electricity’, and 197 innovative ideas and 31 improvement observations were received for ‘Water’. For renewable energy, 222 innovative ideas and 29 improvement observations were received. So far, DEWA has implemented 131 innovative ideas, and 29 improvement observations.
DEWA adopted an idea submitted by Khaled Al Rashidi and titled ‘Bedridden Patients at Home,’ for the disabled who need electrical equipment to stay alive. Faleh Al Muhairi’s idea titled ‘Scouts of DEWA,’ involves training Emirati students to implement initiatives relating to rationalising water and electricity consumption. Muhammad Ali’s idea titled ‘Solar Window,’ involves adding a PV coating to windows that are exposed to the sun, and transforming the sun’s rays into electricity.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA commended the suggestions received through the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis, noting that the Majlis reflects the community’s desire to contribute to innovation and the development of water, electricity, and renewable energy sectors.
“DEWA seeks to benefit from the innovative ideas received through all internal and external platforms such as the Mohammed bin Rashid Smart Majlis, which allows us to connect with the public, in adherence with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Communicating with the public and understanding their thoughts is a useful tool helping us ensure ongoing development and improvement, and increase the public satisfaction and happiness with regard to the governmental services,” said Al Tayer.
“DEWA is committed to reinforcing Dubai’s leading position in innovation, and encouraging citizens, residents, and visitors to create new ideas and solutions to ensure the continuity of world class services. This will help improve the quality of lives, and enhance welfare for all. This is part of DEWA’s efforts to support the National Innovation Strategy, launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, to make the UAE among the most innovative nations in the world. This is also aligned with the Dubai Innovation Strategy, launched by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council, to make Dubai one of the most innovative cities in the world,” added Al Tayer.
