The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has discussed with a number of concerned bodies in the Emirate improvements of the school transport sector and difficulties encountered by these entities. An update was made to attending entities about the latest revisions of rules & regulations relating to the school transport with a view to ensuring the safety of students of different age groups as well as the safety of drivers, and on board attendants.
To this effect a meeting was held between the Transport Activities Monitoring Department at RTA Public Transport Agency with a number of concerned entities namely: Knowledge and Human Resources Development Authority, Community Development Authority, Ministry of community development, Emirates Transport, Dubai Taxi Corporation and a host of school transport operators. During the meeting, which was held in the premises of Public Transport Agency at Muhaisnah, a visual presentation was made fully explaining various aspects of the School Transport Law. Subsequent discussions covered the preamble of the Law, role of monitoring & inspection, inspection within the school zone or at site during the morning & afternoon school sessions, offences & fines of the School Transport Law, list of reported offences of the School Transport Law in 2015 and in the first half of 2016, the most frequent offences of the Law, and the Resolution of the Executive Council No. 18/2014 revising some provisions of Order (2) governing the school transport in Dubai.
Abdullah Al Mahri, Director of Transport Activities Monitoring, RTA Public Transport Agency, welcomed attendees and thanked all bodies engaged in the school transport, considering them strategic partners of the RTA. He commended their continued support of RTA’s efforts towards the optimal implementation of the School Transport Law issued in 2008 by the Dubai Executive Council to ensure the safety of all parties of the school transport sector, and ease the mobility of students of all ages from their homes to schools and back home.
At the end of the gathering, representatives of the parties concerned with the school transport sector renewed their readiness and full support to RTA’s endeavours to implement all laws that maximize the safety of community segments, including users of school transport buses.
