DEWA first government organisation in Dubai to establish a 24/7 Cyber Defence Centre

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) is the first government organisation in Dubai to establish a 24/7 cyber defence centre, in adherence with the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to make Dubai the smartest city in the world. DEWA’s cyber defence centre was established to predict potential threats, ensure preventive measures are in place to protect data by monitoring DEWA’s services and technical assets round the clock, handling incidents with care, and minimising risks. DEWA adopts strategic plans to enhance the performance of services, at the highest standards of accountability. The cyber defence centre is a major step towards ensuring information technology and reflects DEWA’s ongoing commitment to adopt the best solutions and technologies, ensuring the safety, credibility, and accountability of services.

“The cyber defence centre reflects DEWA’s efforts to enhance efficiency using our resources to make Dubai a safe place for citizens, residents, and visitors to live and work; as part of the objectives set by the Dubai Plan 2021. Dubai works efficiently and professionally, to ensure the security of individuals and the community,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“DEWA is constantly working to transform Dubai into a role model for smart cities, by adopting the best information security practices, which is a vital pillar in the development of smart cities. DEWA adopts the best international standards to improve its services, and achieve the highest standards of quality and excellence across all projects, initiatives, and services, in cooperation with an efficient and professional team,” added Al Tayer.

“DEWA understands the importance of immediately dealing with potential security threats that can affect smart cities. DEWA established the 24/7 cyber defence centre to predict potential threats, and ensure that preventive measures are in place to protect our data, by monitoring our services and technical assets around the clock, handling incidents with care, and limiting the effects of potential threats, to become a pioneering government organisation across all levels,” said Marwan Bin Haider, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future at DEWA.

DEWA received a certificate of commitment towards ISO standard ISO 27037:2012, which provides guidelines for dealing with digital evidence. The certificate also includes guidelines to assist with the identification, collection, and preservation of information. DEWA was granted the certificate following a series of evaluative audit and control operations. DEWA adopts innovation and predicting the future as two major pillars to improve its services. DEWA works to achieve the happiness and comfort of its customers by providing highly efficient and accountable services that meet the needs and expectations of customers.
