DEWA receives ISO 27037:2012 certificate for digital information security

Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) received a certificate of commitment towards ISO standard ISO 27037:2012, which provides guidelines for dealing with digital evidence. The certificate also includes guidelines to assist with the identification, collection, and preservation of information. DEWA was granted the certificate following a series of evaluative audit and control operations. This enhances DEWA’s position and contributes to its experience in electronic and information security.

DEWA received the ISO certification based on criteria that includes procedures to ensure the safety and reliability of digital evidence by searching, identifying, and documenting the information, and preventing it from being lost. The criteria also includes the acquisition of information, making copies, and documenting, to maintain and ensure the accuracy of the information to be used at a later stage. This data will also be utilised in the exchange of digital information between DEWA and its stakeholders, to achieve complete integration of data-verification operations.

“DEWA works to predict all risks, and provide protection to the citizens and residents of the UAE. This supports the vision of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and the Smart Dubai initiative to transform Dubai into the smartest city in the world. DEWA strives to adopt the latest techniques in information security, and promote the UAE as a country that puts the happiness and the security of its community at the forefront of its priorities,” said HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.

“We continuously adopt the best international standards, and keep up with the latest developments in information security. This supports our vision to become a sustainable innovative world-class utility. DEWA works to enhance its services by implementing the latest technologies, and adopting the best solutions, to provide integrated services capable of meeting the requirements of everyday life,” added Al Tayer.

“We take priority in maintaining electricity and water services for the Emirate, according to the highest international standards. We analyse all potential risks that may affect our strategy, operations, or the services we provide to our customers. We make sure to take all preventative measures, and develop alternative strategies, to enhance our work process and global competitiveness, across all aspects of our work,” concluded Al Tayer.

“This certificate reflects our commitment to operate according to the best international standards in information security. It also reflects our commitment to adopting effective techniques for managing digital information across all operations, to provide trusted and reliable services,” said Marwan bin Haider, Executive Vice President of Innovation and the Future at DEWA.

“We work to become a pioneering government organisation by adopting strategic plans to enhance the performance of our services, and overcome potential obstacles and risks. This achievement is a major step forward for DEWA’s information security,” added bin Haider.
