Dubai Customs concludes the 1st Customs Week

The closing ceremony took place at DC Headquarters, and was attended by HH Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, Dubai Customs Director, alongside DC leaders and officials, and a host of top clients and representatives of 1st Dubai Customs Week sponsors.

On this occasion, Bin Sulayem expressed his deep appreciation to Dubai Customs clients for being true partners in the success of the event through effective participation and commitment to sharing knowledge and bringing about new ideas for the benefit of all parties.

He said, “The acclaimed status of the UAE and Dubai in particular on the world map, in terms of governmental development and trust in the government, propels us to always think outside the box, being a part of this sophisticated system of government. This is in keeping pace with the great leaps of HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates and his brother HH Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, towards the adoption of innovation and creativity as a key driver for improving government work, building people’s happiness, and establishing the pillars of knowledge economy and sustainable development in all fields.”

Bin Sulayem pointed out that Dubai Customs role is much more than just duty collection, being a vital facilitator of legitimate trade through the support it offers to traders and investors.

“In Dubai, we don’t have the luxury of slowing down nor to be deterred, as we live in a fast paced unique standing as a pivotal axis of global trade streamlining trade between the East and the West. The reel of development is always on the run, which makes it imperative for us to think proactively. This approach is one of the key factors of the global trust we uphold at the PCFC level. And we are determined to pursue this to accommodate the abundance of goods and passengers ahead of the much-anticipated Expo 2020.”

In his speech during the ceremony, Dubai Customs Director Mahboob Musabih thanked all the participants at the 1st DC Week, including sponsors, clients and employees. He stated, “We sought – from the beginning – to ensure that the 1st Dubai Customs Week fulfils stakeholders’ mutual interests. And it did!! Over 30 events that were held at Dubai Customs’ headquarters and centres reached the target audience and were engaging and influential – more than 50 of our distinguished clients were recognized during this week in various Customs centers for their generous collaboration. We are committed to hosting this Week every year with a new twist every time, building on this years’ experience.”

He also announced that the 2nd Dubai Customs Week  will be held from 22nd to 27th of January 2017, which will bring about more events and activities jointly with our stakeholders and business partners.

He also highlighted that this year’s week-long events comprised lectures and workshops that were delivered by experts in the field as well as clients from various commercial sectors. These lectures and workshops were aimed at raising awareness of Customs processes and role in maintaining a sustainable socioeconomic development and joining efforts for security and stability. “The 1st Customs Week was an ideal opportunity to ascertain the synergistic cooperation of the public and private sectors in the UAE,” he said.

“University and school students had a considerable share of these events, as they partook in workshops on IPR protection and the risks of counterfeits on consumers’ health and the national economy.” Musabih added.

He further said, “We are delighted with the outcomes of these events and are more than content with the interaction of clients, partners and the public with our ventures. Furthering Customs-public engagement was the ultimate objective of organising the Customs Week. To that end, we were keen on awarding and recognizing a large segment of our customers through the week in different Customs centers that hosted the events. Because of everyone’s cooperation and involvement, we managed to shed a good light on our top-notch Customs services that aim for clients’ happiness and attracting more traders and investors to Dubai, as a result of adding value to and maximizing their returns.”

On a final remark, DC Director stressed that more initiatives and development projects are on the way for 2016– to fulfil Dubai Customs Strategic Plan 2016-2021 which derives from the objectives of Dubai Plan 2021, particularly with regards to relevant pillars of economy and security. He hoped for more cooperation with all stakeholders to elevate government work.

Both Sultan bin Sulayem and Ahmed Mahboob Musabih honoured the 1st Customs Week sponsors, namely ATC Allied Transport and Texmas Textile Merchants Group for their platinum sponsorship. Eros Group, Swaidan Trading Co. of Saeed & Mohammed Al Naboodah Group, and Danzas as gold sponsors, and Dubai Gold & Jewellery Group for their silver sponsorship.
