Aiming to realize the mission of Dubai Customs in protecting society and supporting economic development through facilitation and compliance, such positive partnerships are driven by the wise directives of H.H Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, dictating the exchange of expertise amongst government entities, benchmarking best practices, cascading success stories and ultimately achieving the goals of government, as per the UAE Vision 2021 and Dubai Plan 2021.
Dubai Customs never ceased to reach out and to cooperate with its strategic partners in the Gulf Cooperation Council ‘GCC’, World Customs Organization ‘WCO’, the International Criminal Police Organization ‘INTERPOL’ and the long list of other strategic partners.
“Dubai Customs looks forward to leverage Dubai’s competitiveness on a global scale,” DC Corporate Communication Director Khalil Saqer bin Gharib said. “That is why we have been focusing our efforts towards reinforcing multilateral cooperation, exchange of expertise, and knowledge transfer among local and federal government entities,” he added.
Bin Gharib further noted: “In this perspective, Dubai Customs’ strategic approach opted for creating a larger circle of partnerships with the prohibition and restriction bodies (regulatory entities) in order to boost Dubai Customs functions and to realize the highest levels of customs efficiency.”
Twenty strategic partners of Dubai Customs were identified for the year 2015.While Dubai Customs had marked 6 milestones in the field of strategic partnership during the past year by signing a variety of engaging MOUs, starting with Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone Authority (TECOM), an MOU with Dubai University to offer Diploma and Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics and Customs, an MOU on collaboration in the field of capacity building and staff training with Dubai Judicial Institute, an MOU in pursuance of the ‘Partners for Excellence’ initiative launched by Dubai Government Excellence Program (DGEP) was also signed with Dubai Legal Affairs Department, another with Emirates Talent Association and an MOU for cooperation with Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI) aimed at presenting a radio program titled ‘UAE Innovation Week’.
Pertaining to the economy of knowledge, Dubai Customs was keen on invigorating its in-house processes by conducting 23 internal benchmarks during 2015 with heavy-weight government and international agencies, like Dubai Police, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Emirates Airlines, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services, General Directorate of Foreigners Affairs, Dubai Smart Government, the Public Prosecution, Dubai Municipality, and INTERPOL at the international level. This approach also extended to cover 41 external benchmarks with over than 30 government agencies nationwide.
The Senior Manager of Government Partnership and CSR at Dubai Customs Corporate Communication Department Maryam Khalifa Al Shamsi hailed these added-value accomplishments saying that, “Some concluded partnerships were crucial in better fortifying the security aspects of the UAE and Dubai in particular, based on a viable exchange of intelligence with regulatory authorities such as the Federal Customs Authority, Dubai Police General Headquarters, Regional Office for Exchange of Information in the Middle East (RILO), Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), Ministry of Environment and Water and the Department of Economic Development in Sharjah.”
In 2015, Dubai Customs claimed a prosperous yield of resourceful initiatives hand in hand with its strategic partners, including the regulation of mechanisms for dealing with seizures of CITES-listed species in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment, organizing blood donation campaigns in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, partaking in the ‘Earth Hour’ organized by DEWA, organizing the third Mass Female Wedding Ceremony on the International Women's Day in collaboration with DEWA, Dubai Municipality, RTA, the Department of Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities, Health Authority, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai, and Dubai Police General Headquarters, as well as the destruction of over than 10 tons of ivory in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment.
Furthermore, Dubai Customs took part in the "Why Do You Maintain It?" voluntary campaign conducted by Dubai Land Department, "My Blood for My Country" Campaign organized by Dubai Health Authority and “Your Safety Matters” in collaboration with Dubai Police General Headquarters.
Al Shamsi underlined that the fruits of DC’s cooperation with its strategic partners, while impacting positively on the organization’s overall corporate performance, had helped significantly improve the Government performance in general by boosting its capacity to deliver public services per highest quality standards.
