RTA Launches Smart Scan System For Parking Fee Payment |

The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has unveiled a smart scan system for monitoring & enforcement of parking fee payment through utilising the features of Artificial Intelligence (AI). It involves the deployment of a vehicle driven by inspectors and equipped with a device on top to detect vehicles in breach of parking fee payment. The move is part of the UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence and RTA’s endeavours to use the latest and smartest technologies in dealing with parking users. Eng. Maitha bin Adai, CEO of Traffic and Roads Agency, said, “The Smart Scan System of public parking in Dubai involves the deployment of a vehicle, driven by parking inspectors, and equipped with a device on top capable of spotting vehicles for which no parking fees were paid. The system will step up the efficiency of monitoring and enforcement, and reduce the potential errors in filing offences. The introduction of such smart systems in the RTA underlines its commitment to keep pace with Dubai Government’s transition to a Smart Government; which is part of the UAE Strategy for Artificial Intelligence. “It is imperative to introduce smart technologies to parking inspection activities, especially as the portion of e-parking tickets is increasingly on the rise, compared to paper tickets. The RTA is also undertaking several smart initiatives in support of the smart transformation covering parking systems and services,” added Maitha. |
