Ten-year-old jiu-jitsu athlete Mohammad Alsabea proves willpower is strongest tool for overcoming challenges

Abu Dhabi, November 14: At the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival, young Kuwaiti athlete Mohammad Alsabea captured attention with his determined and spirited performance. He stepped onto the mat with confidence beyond his age, tightening his white belt around his waist and preparing for his match with a smile that reflected his passion for the sport.

Despite facing a physical challenge that limits movement in one hand, Mohammad never allowed it to become an obstacle to his dream. He began his jiu-jitsu journey three years ago after a short experience with Shotokan karate. He soon found in jiu-jitsu the space he had long been searching for, a space of freedom and a way to express an inner strength that the body cannot restrict.

Since then, Mohammad has become a model of discipline and commitment. He trains three times a week and approaches every session with a determination far greater than his age. He is not just another athlete among his teammates but a source of inspiration for all of them. Every movement he performs is a reminder that true strength comes not from muscles but from self-belief and confidence.

Through that belief, Mohammad achieved what once seemed distant. He earned three medals in local competitions in Kuwait, two gold and one silver. Yet as his mother explains, the biggest achievement is not the medals but the transformation jiu-jitsu has created in his personality. He has become more confident, more courageous and more determined to overcome everyday challenges with the same spirit he brings to the mat.

In his first appearance today (Friday) at the Abu Dhabi World Jiu-Jitsu Festival, part of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship, Mohammad delivered a performance that reflected his deep passion for the sport and his strong competitive spirit. His participation alone was an achievement that strengthened his confidence and encouraged him to continue improving. It also reaffirmed that real victory lies in taking on the challenge until the end.

In a touching gesture, the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation honoured Mohammad for his determination, perseverance and impressive performance. He received a medal amid applause from the crowd and athletes, a moment that embodied the true spirit of the championship where values and human stories rise above results. Mohammad expressed his happiness with the honour and said that the day will remain one of the best moments of his life and a motivation for him to continue training and achieving more in the future.
